The Four Foundations of Mindfulness

In this six-part online series, Ayya Jitindriya will offer teachings on the Four Foundations of Mindfulness – one of the key practice paradigms in Buddhism – which cultivates mindfulness, full awareness and liberating wisdom. Using the original discourse (sutta) as a structure and reference for the course, Ayya Jitindriya will present a concise overview and exploration of the main points and practices therein. She’ll discuss how we can apply these foundations of mindfulness in both our meditation practice and our daily lives, as well as explain what purpose they serve with regard to stabilising the mind, clearing up confusion, and ultimately freeing the mind from unnecessary cycles of suffering.

Each session will be 1.5hrs (long offered on Zoom), and will include a Dharma reflection on the topic, a guided meditation to apply the practice, and time for Q&A.

DATES: The sessions will be held live on Saturdays, from 10.30am 12noon September: 13th, 20th & 27th

October: 11th, 18th, & 25th (NB: no teachings on October 4th)

Everyone is encouraged to attend each session and the Zoom link will be provided on registration. The teachings will be recorded, and if someone has to unavoidably miss a session, they will be able to watch the missed recording before they attend the next one.

REGISTRATION:

Please email gebchakretreats@gmail.com by Saturday 30th August with your full name & phone number to register. The teachings will be offered freely, but you are encouraged to offer a donation (dana) to Ayya Jitindriya. Details of how to do this will be given on registration.

Ayya Jitindriya’s bio:

Ayya Jitindriyā first trained as a nun in the Theravada Forest Tradition lineage of Ajahn Chah and Ajahn Sumedho for over 16 years, from 1988-2004, after which she pursued a Master’s degree in Buddhist Psychotherapy Practice. She has worked in the mental health sector for over a decade, and taught meditation, Buddhism and psychotherapy in various capacities.

In early 2018, Jitindriyā re-entered monastic life at Santi Forest Monastery in the Southern Highlands of NSW, and held the role of guiding teacher there for a time. Ayya Jitindriyā’s cultivation of Buddha-Dhamma over the years has also included the study and practice of Dzogchen, having had the fortunate opportunity to sit with and learn from various masters of this tradition.
